TAWAU: The Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) will take decisive action, including the proposal to close the operations of the Tanjung Market and Sin Onn Market and other markets if the public does not comply with the order not to gather in large groups.

MPT President Datuk Amrullah Kamal said he would not hesitate to take similar action such as the closing of the Foh Sang Market in Kota Kinabalu if the situation is required.

Therefore, he wants the people of the district to abide by the instructions of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to stay at home or only go out when necessary.

State Secretary Datuk Safar Untong in a statement on Saturday announced the immediate closure of the Foh Sang Market operations throughout the MCO.

This  follows the severe congestion there as people flocked to the market.

The situation also prompted a wide range of reactions from people who described this irresponsible act like as if  ‘nothing has happened’ in the state. –       Lagatah Toyos
