Umno wants probe on awarding of 4 contracts

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno wants the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to immediately investigate the alleged awarding of four road maintenance contracts valued at RM1.55 billion to four companies via direct negotiation, without going through the tender process.Sabah Umno Communication Director Ghazalie Ansing (pic) said based on a report by a news portal, each of the four contracts was valued at between RM325 million and RM500 million.

“The municipal and district road maintenance projects should go through a tender process and not to be awarded direct to certain companies for a period of five years.
“It is odd such hundreds of million ringgit projects did not go through an open tender process...what is the actual motive for the State Government to do it like that?
“Were these projects awarded to crony companies?” he asked, Wednesday.
Ghazalie, who is also Tawau Umno Division Chief, said the ruling Parti Warisan Sabah and Pakatan Harapan (PH) had promised in its 14th General Election manifesto to practise transparency in administration but now they did just the opposite and did not walk the talk.

“If it is true that the said contracts were awarded via direct negotiation as alleged by the news portal, then the MACC should investigate and take appropriate action if there are elements of abuse of power and corruption by the parties involved.
“The MACC should not keep silent or delay investigations into the allegations because it involves the taxpayers’ money.
