RM204,000 goods seized in Beaufort

BEAUFORT: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry’s (KPDNHEP) Beaufort branch confiscated goods worth RM204,524.67 between 2016 and 2020.

The highest was in 2019 with RM133,208.78 followed by 2016 (RM53,98331), 2017 (RM5,684.50), 2018 (RM1,000.52) while up until May this year it was RM2,530.01.

The confiscation involved compound amounting to RM169,780, said KPDNHEP Beaufort Branch Chief Fikri Lai at the Job Delegation event on Monday.

He said only one case was settled in court this year, which involved a RM30,000 fine, adding that a total of 25,289 inspections were carried out at business premises in Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Sipitang.

On food supply in the three areas, Fikri assured that it is adequate and that no premise are hoarding basic necessity items for the purpose of raising prices.

“KPDNHEP warned traders not to increase prices of controlled items during Hari Raya,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fikri thanked Haliza Sainan for her contribution as she is transferred to KPDNHEP Keningau after nine years of service in the office here.
