Kota Kinabalu: Vernacular schools do not disrupt national unity, but in fact, contribute actively to fostering harmony within the nation’s multi-chromatic society, said Sabah MCA chairperson Lu Yen Tung.

Lu said it is not a novelty that the number of non-Chinese students is on the rise in SJKCs, surpassing the 18 per cent mark to date and is estimated to continue its upward trend in the coming years.

“In Sabah, over half of the students in SJKCs are from non-Chinese communities,” he said in a statement, Thursday.
