Kota Kinabalu: Caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal (pic) said Petronas has yet to agree to pay state sales tax on petroleum products extracted from Sabah’s continental shelf and within its Exclusive Economic Zone.It was reported last May 8 that Petronas has agreed to pay state sales tax of RM2 billion on petroleum products to the Sarawak Government after both parties reached a settlement on oil and gas matters in the State.
During a meeting with leaders of the Chinese community at Hakka Hall here on Thursday, Shafie said he had continually asked then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed for 20 per cent oil royalty and, if currently not affordable, to turn the entitlement into shareholding in Petronas.
