Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old wireman was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with assaulting a policeman with a modified scissors.
Maslan Lamang, who was brought before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, was accused of committing the crime against corporal Mohd Firdaus Nor Ahmad at 1.25pm on Aug 24 at the staircase of Blok B, Taman Puri Warisan in Inanam. The charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with fine or with whipping on conviction.
No plea was recorded from Maslan while waiting for the victim’s medical report. Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Sanip proposed no bail by informing the court that Maslan was charged in the Sessions Court earlier for having a dangerous weapon and was denied bail.
Jessica set Sept 22 for mention and ordered Maslan to be remanded further.
Maslan was not represented.
In another case, two men were fined RM100 or 14 days each for fraudulently having six cans of ghee.
Md Affizan Md Affendy and Md Zulfikar Ibrahim pleaded guilty to having the items which they failed to explain on how they obtained them at 9.30pm on Aug 13 at Bataras supermarket in Wawasan Plaza.
They were charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a RM100 fine or up to three months jail or both on conviction.
Affizan and Zulfikar who were unrepresented, requested for leniency. Inspector Albert Basiri prosecuted.
