PENAMPANG: Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan broke his silence for the first time over the treatment he received as Chief Minister in 1985 under former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.Pairin, who gave up the PBS presidency but remains its Permanent Presidential Adviser – Parti Bersatu Sabah pulled out from the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition within five years – said upon reflection Dr Mahathir “did not do anything good for Sabah”.
“When I recall what happened in 1985, it made me sad…when the Prime Minister (Mahathir) came here, he said he did not know who the Chief Minister was whereas I had already taken the oath of office,” he said, Thursday.
