22 penalised over drugs

Kota Kinabalu: Twenty two people were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court, here, for committing drug-related offences.

Twenty one of them pleaded guilty to taking drugs while one admitted to having syabu.

The 21 were Rovictor Robortilin, Hardey Madelawi, Hamirul Hamdan, Anefah Chong, Shirelyn Richard, Sia Jia Ja, Daniel Joe, Chan Chin Loong, Marzin Mijan, Sarif Borhan, Yunus Yandangi, Crostopho Bandasan, Md Badrol Azhar, Sultan Abdullah, Thomas Boon, Saufi Afandy, Aris Edin, Ting Jee Cheong, Abd Karim Pitrus, Dimas Diaudin and Nizam Ismail.

They were arrested at separate locations here and in Penampang between May 19 and Aug 7, and tested positive for syabu and amphetamine.

Rovictor, Hardey and Hamirul were fined RM2,300 or seven months jail each, Anefah, Shirelyn, Sia and Daniel were each fined RM2,000 or jail between six and seven months, while Chan, Marzin and Sarif were ordered to pay a fine of RM1,700 or seven months jail each.

Yunus and Crostopho were each handed seven months jail while the rest were jailed six months each.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, the other man Nazrun Amdin pleaded guilty to having 0.4gm of syabu at 7.20pm on June 25 this year at Manggatal.

Nazrun was fined RM3,000 or nine months jail.

He was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.

The 22 were brought before Magistrate’s Lovely Natasha Charles, Stephanie Sherron Abbie, Afiq Agoes and Jessica Ombou Kakayun on Thursday.
