Give LDP’s young leaders a chance: Chong
PAPAR: The time has come for fresh, young leaders to lead Sabah to a better future.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Honorary Life President Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat (pic) said such a move would also eliminate corrupt leaders, who are only after their own personal interest.

“LDP candidates are unique and extraordinary and they reflect the future of Sabah. Why? It’s because they are young leaders, who have never been involved in the political arena.

“They are clean and don’t have any dirty political background. They are important because youths are going to be the leaders of today and tomorrow,” he said in his speech during the LDP campaign trail at Kampung Sungai Padang, here.

Also present was the party’s Pantai Manis candidate, Mazreca John, 29. The state seat falls under the Papar parliamentary constituency, as are Kawang and the new Limbahau seat. Young candidates Cornelius Frederick @ Michael Fj Sulip and Janrywine J Lusin will be LDP’s face in the polls for Limbahau and the Kawang state seat, respectively.

Unlike other parties, Chong said LDP candidates did not lobby to contest in the 16th Sabah Election.

Instead, Chong, who formed LDP in 1989 with other like-minded leaders, said he was the one who personally approached potential aspirants and screened them to make sure the young leaders walk the talk when they were picked to contest in the polls. They have a strong vision for their respective area. They are not here looking for opportunity to get (project) allocation,” he said.

The former Sabah Chief Minister, who is also contesting for the Inanam seat, expressed his frustration of politicians who were only interested in getting allocation for projects but which were never executed and only appeared during election in their respective constituencies.

He noted that the government that came after his tenure as Chief Minister had wasted the people’s money with the appointment and establishment of many unnecessary positions and ministries.

Should LDP become the State Government, Chong said the party would not allow the appointment of more than one Deputy Chief Minister, Assistant Minister and a political secretary.

He said such is the party’s first priority and determination to ensure there would be no wastage of people’s money, and the funds would be put to good use in developing the State.

Chong called on voters to use their influence to spread the LDP message to their family members and friends to review past performance and vote wisely come Sept 26.

Speaking to reporters after the “ceramah” session, Chong said the party’s momentum would remain high in the remaining six campaigning days.

“We have also been campaigning and engaging with voters via social media. If you look at Facebook, you can deduce there are cybertroopers tasked to criticise (LDP).

“We will leave it and not respond to such criticism. We only meet the people and give explanation to them,” he said.

Chong also rubbished rumours that LDP was sponsored by Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional, stressing the party will stand by its 46 candidates to form the next State Government.
