Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old man who was previously charged with having a knife at public area without a permit, is facing another charge of causing hurt to a policeman.
For the new charge, Maslan Lamang is accused of causing hurt to Corporal Mohd Firdaus Nor Ahmad by using a pair of modified scissors at 1.25pm on Aug 24 this year under the stairs of Block G in Taman Puri Warisan in Inanam.
The offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or with fine, or with whipping, on conviction.
However, no plea was taken from Maslan when the charge was read to him before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus.
Maslan is also accused of having the knife at the same place and time.
The court set Oct 20 for mention for both cases and ordered Maslan to be remanded further pending the date.
In another case, a practical student charged with raping an underaged girl, was ordered to enter his defence.
The court made the order for Muhammad Hafiz Jeral after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Muhammad.
Muhammad Hafiz’s defence had been fixed on Dec 11 – 15.
He allegedly raped the girl at 10pm on June 10 at the bedroom of an apartment, here.
Counsel Shahlan Jufri who represented Muhammad, informed the court that the defence will produce four witnesses to testify.
Eight prosecution witnesses were called during the hearing at the prosecution stage.
