Jail, cane for taking syabu  repeatedly

Kota Kinabalu: Three men were sentenced to five years’ jail and given a stroke of the cane each for taking syabu repeatedly.

Sessions Court Azreena Aziz handed the sentence to Tailon Chong Shih Wen, 35, Arman Hariri Mohd Jidi, 32, and Alimar Ekon, 23, after they pleaded guilty separately to the charge against them.

They were found taking the drug between Sept 21, 2019 and July 14 this year after their urine samples were tested positive for drug at police station here, respectively.

They have several convictions for taking drug, respectively.

They committed the offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and read together under Section 39C (1)(b) of the same Act which provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction. The trio were ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest.

After serving their jail sentence, they were ordered placed under police supervision for two years.
