Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old man was jailed 12 months for having a stolen motorcycle.
Nulasbi Rozman pleaded guilty before Magistrate Afiq Agoes Wednesday to having the Modenas Kriss belonging to one Rester Rize Mandy at 7.50pm on Sept 17 under the staircase of Block D of Kinarut flats, Jalan SMK Limau-Limauan, in Kinarut, Papar. The court ordered Nulasbi to serve the sentence from Wednesday.
Earlier, Inspector Lim Swee Beng, prosecuting, informed the court that Rester lodged a police report after realising his motorcycle, which was parked behind a restaurant at Gaya Street, here, went missing on Sept 4 before he went to work.
Nulasbi, who was arrested on Sept 17, led the police to the said place where he kept the machine.
He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and five years, or fine, on conviction.
Unrepresented, Nulasbi requested for a lenient sentence while Lim applied for an adequate sentence.
In another case, 21 people, including 12 foreigners, were penalised for committing drugs-related offences.
Seventeen of them, Md Aziz Nasri, Dafit Pit, Md Nazri Jaidin, Antonius Tonapa, Sa Hock Chan, Arwan Awang, Mohamad Safwan and foreigners Rayan Asadie, Royan Rante, Rajmal Sakinal, Mohamad Rasuran, Ismail Nandung, Anton Belnang, Nazrin Abdul, Franciscusguna Edison, Tuming Faisal and Resky Saputra pleaded guilty to taking syabu and amphetamine.
They had committed the offence at separate locations here and in Penampang between July 14 and Aug 8.
Mohamad Safwan was fined RM2,500 or eight months’ jail, while the rest were handed 10 months’ jail each.
Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail on conviction.
Meanwhile, the other four men, Budit Salleh, Md Nazeem Telepudin, Anwar Umar and Eddie Sinor, pleaded guilty to having syabu as charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail, or both, on conviction.
Anwar and Eddie were jailed 11 months and 10 months, respectively, while the rest were handed nine months’ jail each.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie ordered the foreigners be referred to the Immigration Department after serving their sentence.
