Kota Kinabalu: Former president of consumer association was fined a total of RM1,300 by the Magistrate’s Court here Wednesday on two counts of committing offences under the Societies Act 1966.

(pic) pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offences in 2006 and 2009.
Patrick was fined RM800 or three weeks jail on the first count of being as president of Sabah Consumers’ Association for changing the name of the association from Sabah Consumers’ Association to Consumers Association of Sabah and Labuan (CASH) in a certificate of registration without obtaining permission from the Registrar.
He committed the offence at the Sabah Consumers’ Association office at Jalan Pusat Pembangunan Masyarakat, Lorong Selunsung D, Off Jalan Mat Salleh, Taman Sempelang, Sembulan on July 1, 2006.
The charge under Section 11(2) of the Societies Act 1966 provides for a fine of up to RM3,000 on conviction.
On the second count, Patrick was fined RM500 or two weeks jail that as president of Sabah Consumers’ Association he gave a fake document - a certificate of registration of Consumers Association of Sabah and Labuan (Cash) to the registrar officer, one Saripah Suadi.
The offence took place at the Sabah Consumers’ Association office at Jalan Bunga Patuma E, Kepayan Low Cost shop on Feb 10, 2009.
The charge under Section 54A of the Societies Act 1966 provides for fine of up to RM2,000 on conviction.
Patrick, who was not represented, requested for a leniency on the grounds that the case occurred 10 years ago and that it was his first offence.
He also told the court that he is suffering from high blood pressure and that he is presently unemployed and is only staying in his village and claimed that he is now 70 years old.
Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit applied for an adequate sentence.
Lovely in meting out the sentence held that she had considered that it was his first offence, being old age and unemployed.
In another case, a foreigner pleaded guilty to assaulting a man.
Mullyr Pulalon was accused of causing hurt to one Salleh Naim at 7pm on Sept 19 this year at a cobbler stall at Sinsuran night market.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
Inspector Lim Swee Beng who prosecuted applied for the facts and sentencing be deferred pending the alleged victim’s medical report and objected bail as the accused has no valid document.
The court set Nov 16 for facts and sentencing and ordered Mullyr be remanded further.
