(pic), suggested that laundry marts, tire shops and workshops also be allowed to operate during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) here provided that they comply with the stipulated guidelines. “Laundry operators especially need to be allowed to open for business because clothing is one of the ways Covid-19 virus infection can spread,” he said in a statement, here, Friday.
He pointed out that closing tire shops and workshops also makes no sense as their services are much needed to ensure that transportation services and the use of vehicles such as lorries can run smoothly and safely.
He said the income of hawkers/traders who have spent a lot of money on workers’ wages, proper equipment for temperature checks and so on to comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by City Hall and the Ministry of Health, are also affected by the CMCO.
“Hawkers/traders here have complied with the SOP and I hope the State Government and the Federal Government can allow these businesses to reopen,” he said.
Earlier in his statement, he noted that the public are already aware that wearing face masks and following the SOPs such as taking body temperature, writing names and phone numbers in record books or using applications like MySejahtera is the new norm.
“This new norm has been proven to be effective in reducing the spread of Covid-19.
“We also know that the increase in Covid-19 cases was caused by some parties who did not comply with the SOP set by the Ministry of Health and the Election Commission in the State Election,” he said.
“However, I hope the people of Sabah are not blamed and punished for the mistakes of others,” he added.
