Poor, but innovative
A smartphone with WiFi hotspot switched on in a plastic bottle.
Kota Kinabalu: A bamboo pole, an empty plastic bottle, a rope, and a smartphone – these are the components used by villagers in Pitas to obtain better Internet coverage.

In a viral three-minute video, a narrator related how this device works. He said first, a long bamboo pole is installed on the ground and a smartphone with its WiFi hotspot mode switched on is placed inside an empty plastic bottle.

The bottle is then hoisted to the top of the pole and the rope is secured to prevent it from falling.

The video also showed several houses in the area that used the same method. A villager is heard lamenting on not getting good Internet coverage there.
