DUNGUN: Police have arrested five people who allegedly raped a Year Six pupil in Felda Ketengah Jaya two weeks ago.
Dungun district police chief Superintendent Baharudin Abdullah said the suspects, aged between 16 and 23, were detained early this morning after a police report was lodged by the victim.
Baharudin said the incident took place around 9am on Sept29. The victim was believed to have been riding a motorcycle, on her way to fetch her mother who was a trader at a ‘pasar malam’ near the house.
“On her way there, she was stopped by two suspects, one of whom was known the girl.
The two then invited the girl to join them elsewhere. The two brought her to a remote location within an oil palm estate.
“Feeling unsafe, she tried to use her phone to call for help. However, one of the suspects snatched her phone away,” he said.
The two then took turns to rape the girl. They were soon joined by three more friends, who also sexually assaulted the victim.
Baharudin said following their arrests, the suspects were brought to the Dungun district police headquarters for further questioning.
The victim was treated at the Dungun Hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 375(b) of the Penal Code for rape.
