Kota Kinabalu: Local fishing boats have been detected to be in cahoots with human trafficking syndicates to smuggle in illegal immigrants. This was disclosed by Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sabah and Labuan Director, First Admiral Mohd Rosli Abdullah, Monday.
“Apart from foreign fishing boats, there are also local fishing boats that try to bring illegal immigrants into Sabah,” he said, citing instances recorded in waters off Pulau Mantanani and Sandakan suspected of trying to traffic in 120 Filipinos.
