Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) is the latest political party to decide against contesting the Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election.
Its chief Christina Liew announced this decision, saying it was their way of showing respect to the late incumbent Liew Vui Keong, who was also Warisan’s permanent chairman.
“Our decision is a show of respect for the late Datuk VK Liew who last held the Batu Sapi parliamentary seat under Warisan.
“Sabah PH is a partner of the Warisan Plus coalition. He (Liew) served as Batu Sapi MP from May 2018 until Oct 2,” said Christina, who is also Sabah PKR head, in a statement.

Sabah PH comprises PKR, DAP and Amanah as component parties.
Christina called on other parties as well as individuals to avoid participating or to ensure full observance of the SOPs should they decide to contest in the polls.
“Taking into account the lessons learned from the recent Sabah election, there is a genuine need to tighten the existing SOPs for elections.”
Previously, Barisan Nasional and Parti Cinta Sabah had announced they would skip the by-election for which polling has been set for Dec 5, early voting on Dec 1 and nominations on Nov 23.
The by-election was triggered by Liew’s death on Oct 2.
