Ketamin worth RM1.7m seized
The Ketamin declared as food item.
SEPANG: The Royal Malaysian Customs (JKDM) succeeded in seizing ketamin weighing 30.68 kilogrammes worth RM1.7 million which was smuggled into the country, after it was declared as a food item.

JKDM director-general Datuk Seri Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said the drug was flown in, via a cargo aircraft from a South Asian country through the KL International Airport, hidden in cereal boxes to fool the authorities.

He said the drug, in powder form, was packed into 700-gramme packets and put into empty cereal boxes which were then put together with other genuine boxes of cereal into two large containers.

He said JKDM tracked and detained two foreign men, 37 and 45 years old, at a commercial area in Ampang with two large containers containing the drugs on October 8.

‘’They found 35 cereal boxes filled with ketamin and 18 other boxes containing cereal in the two containers,’’ he told a media conference here, today.

He said the two foreigners, including one without a passport, were remanded seven days.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 39(b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death sentence if found guilty.

The drug was believed to have been smuggled in to be processed and packed for sale in the local market and could meet the need of 150,000 addicts, Abdul Latif added.
