Man charged with disposing of laptop and watch

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with two counts of disposing of a stolen laptop and having a stolen wristwatch.

Mohd Nor Adnie Abdul Ghani, 35, who was brought before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, pleaded not guilty to both charges.

On the first count, Adnie was accused of assisting in disposing of a stolen laptop belonging to Maisarah Abdul Gani at 3.10pm on March 14 this year at the bundle shop at the old weekly tamu in Putatan.

The offence under Section 414 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, upon conviction.

On the second count, Adnie allegedly kept a stolen wristwatch at 4.30pm on Sept 22, this year at Restoran Resika Maju at Api-Api Centre, here.

He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between six months and five years or fine, upon conviction.

The prosecution proposed bail at RM5,000 in two sureties on each count.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence applied for a lower bail amount on the grounds that Adnie is unemployed but worked as a deejay before the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The court set Nov 17 and Dec 14 for case management on the first count and second count, respectively.

Adnie was released on a bail of RM1,500 in two sureties on each charge.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man claimed trial to having two stolen wristwatches.

Assistant chef Mohd Rizal Mulpi Sitayandah was accused of committing the offence at 1.30pm on Sept 23 in a rented room at Lintas Jaya Uptown shop, Jalan Kepayan near here.

Rizal was also charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

The prosecution proposed bail at RM5,000 in two sureties.

Lim, who also represented Rizal, applied for a lower bail amount on the grounds that Rizal is married with two children and was the sole breadwinner.

The court fixed Nov 17 for case management and offered Rizal bail at RM2,500 in two sureties.
