Fire: Elderly man dies in bid to save dogs
Fire and Rescue Department personnel and police officers carrying the body of the late Ong Cheng Seng, 67, in Kampung Limbongan.
MELAKA: An elderly man was burnt to death while trying to save his three pet dogs from a fire that razed his house in Lorong Yang Kee, Kampung Limbongan here this morning.

Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Department chief Deputy Superintendent II Mohd Khairul Nizam Mohd Anuar said the charred remains of Ong Cheng Seng, 67, who said to be living alone, was found lying in the kitchen of the house in the 6.47am incident.

“The victim had managed to run out of the burning house. However, he went back into the house to save his pet dogs. The charred body of the victim was discovered by firemen after the blaze was put out,” he told reporters when met by reporters at the scene.

Mohd Khairul Nizam said the fire also destroyed two vehicles – a car and motorcycle belonging to the victim adding that firemen also discovered charred remains of two dogs near the front door of the house.
