Kota Kinabalu: Two former Sabah Chief Ministers and the former Dewan Rakyat Speaker agreed that the Election Commission (EC) should impose additional standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure free and fair elections.Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Honorary Life President Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee and former Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said the EC should prohibit voters bringing their handphones into the polling booths when casting their votes.
They were referring to a Daily Express expose on Thursday about agents of political parties as well as candidates using a new vote-buying method in some hotly contested seats in the recent State election. The new tactic requires voters to take a screen shot of their votes cast in the polling booth as proof before collecting payments of between RM100 and RM800 in some cases.
