Fake IC: NRD assistant registrar’s trial re-scheduled

Kota Kinabalu: The trial continuation of a 53-year-old assistant registrar of the National Registration Department (NRD), charged with making a fake identification card was on Monday re-scheduled.

Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat made the order for Safiah Alijang.

The new date would be fixed later.

Safiah is accused of making the fake document bearing the serial number 991207-12-5135 under the name Muhamad Daniel Hafiez bin Arif @ Jali at 3.05pm on May 22, 2013 at the NRD Pitas branch.

The offence, under Section 463/465 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, on conviction.

Safiah is currently released on a bail of RM6,000 with RM4,000 deposited in a local surety.

Safiah was also ordered to report to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s office once in two months as well as her passport, if any, to be kept by the court until the disposal of her case.

Several witnesses had already been called to testify in the hearing.

Meanwhile, the court also re-scheduled the trial of a case involving a couple charged with three counts of producing fake bank statements to the Sabah Education Department to get contracts for supplying cooked food to a school here.

Abdul Rahman Alimudin, 48, and his wife Janifer Basalat, 49, were supposed to stand trial on Monday.

Each of them faces three charges.

On the first to third count, Abdul Rahman and Janifer, allegedly used three fake bank statements dated July 31, Aug 31, and Sept 30, 2016 under Syarikat Alam Jaguh.

The charges stated that they produced the fake bank statements  to obtain the tender to supply cooked food for SMK Maktab Sabah and the tender was from March 1, 2017 until Feb 28, 2019.

The duo were on bail.
