SANDAKAN: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) here thwarted an attempt by illegal immigrants to smuggle in 3.98 million sticks of contraband cigarettes some 6.1 nautical miles northeast of Tanjung Casuarina, Pulau Tetabuan, Thursday.The six illegals were detected on a local fishing boat laden with 19,900 cartons of the contraband at about 2pm.
Sandakan Maritime Zone Director, Zainudin Mohd Zuki, in a statement said the seizure was made by the team on Ops Benteng patrol off Pulau Tetabuan.
