Kota Kinabalu: A Covid-19 cluster onboard a floating Petronas gas facility in Papar has spread to another Sarawak district with 13 new cases, data from the Ministry of Health showed on Friday.

The Sauh cluster found at Petronas’ first floating liquefied natural gas facility was reported yesterday to have spread to Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Miri in Sarawak with 17 cases.

However, latest data showed the cluster had further spread to Daro in Sarawak’s Mukah division with 30 cases in total now with 315 people screened.

According to Petronas' website, the facility (pictured), also known as "PFLNG (Petronas’ floating liquefied natural gas) Satu", is designed to last up to 20 years without dry-docking and has the flexibility to be redeployed to multiple locations to better access marginal and stranded gas fields of Malaysia.

Another cluster, Kepayan Prison in Kota Kinabalu, recorded the most new cases among Malaysia’s clusters with 140 new cases, increasing its total to 722 cases.

A total of 1,461 people have been screened in the cluster, out of about 2,700 inmates and almost 600 staff members of the correctional facility.
