PETALING JAYA: Muslim women should wear a face mask underneath their veil, advised Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah

“We are following the World Health Organisation’s recommendation of wearing three-ply face masks, as a single layer is inadequate (for protection).
“If you are wearing only a veil, this is insufficient.
“We advise that a three-ply face mask or three-layer fabric face mask be worn under the veil,” he said during his daily Covid-19 briefing yesterday.
He noted that the National Security Council has made it compulsory for face masks to be worn in public areas from Aug 1 and permitted the use of two types of face masks – the three-ply surgical mask or three-layer fabric mask.
He was responding to a question on whether Muslim women wearing veils were required to don face masks as well.
