Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia First, a platform seeking to unite and strengthen ties between Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia, views the move to impose a State of Emergency by the Federal Government as unnecessary and too draconian. Its initiator Mohamed Tawfik Tun Dr Ismail (pic) and 180 signatories said an emergency could also demand the curtailment of freedom of commerce and communication between the three components of the nation, thus is counter-productive to national integration and nation-building.

“A State of Emergency as envisaged with the possible suspension of Parliament and state legislatures and the imposition of restrictions on movement and civil activities is a step too far in battling the Covid-19 pandemic, and with terrible consequences on our democracy, economy and the people’s livelihood.
