BN leaders meet over 'next move' after Agong's no Emergency decision
Kuala Lumpur: Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders have convened a meeting here, believed for discussing the coalition’s next move following the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decision that there was no need to declare a state of emergency in the country.

BN secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa, when contacted, confirmed that the meeting began at 1 pm today at Menara Dato’ Onn.

Among those seen arriving at the building were several BN ministers, including Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Annuar, who is Federal Territories Minister, who had all attended a Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya this morning.

Also spotted there were former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is Pekan Member of Parliament, Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainal Abidin (Padang Besar MP), Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh (Besut MP) and UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khalid Nordin.

Also present was Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng from MCA.

In a statement yesterday, the Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was of the view that there was no need to declare a state of Emergency in Malaysia or any part of the country now.

His Majesty decided on this after holding a special meeting with other Malay Rulers to discuss the government’s request to declare an Emergency under Article 150(2B) of the Federal Constitution, as presented by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

His Majesty felt that the government had been fighting the pandemic in an effective and proper manner.

Meanwhile, Hishammuddin, when approached by reporters, said the BN meeting today, among others, would focus on the party’s support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

When asked whether Muhyiddin should step down, Hishammuddin said the matter would be discussed further as they need to get input on the coalition's position first.

"That is why we are discussing it. I want to hear BN's position," he said.
