Kuala Lumpur: The government will extend the Enhanced Movement Control Order (Emco) on two residential areas in Lahad Datu – Taman Khazanah Indah and Pangsapuri Mutiara Kasih – and Felda Umas Kalabakan, in Sabah.

The order, which went into effect on Oct 13 and was scheduled to end today, will be extended from Oct 27 to Nov 9.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision to extend the Emco by 14 days was made based on recommendations by the Sabah National Security Council and the Health Ministry, amidst a surge in Covid-19 cases in the state.

Ismail Sabri said existing standard operating procedures will be maintained in the Emco areas.

However, he said shops will now be allowed to conduct business from 6am to 6pm for those in need of essential items, such as diapers and baby milk formula.

“(But) residents in the areas are only allowed to make trips to the shops and return home,” he said during the live press conference.
