Kota Kinabalu: Two women were rescued after they were trapped in a fire in Kompleks Karamunsing here believed sparked by cigarette butts on Wednesday.
The 5.45pm incident occurred in Block A and caused thick smoke to rise to the 10th floor of the 12-storey building.
The fire was believed to have occurred as a result of cigarette butts thrown in a garbage disposal area located on the first floor which was suspected to have flammable materials.
Firefighters arrived but the fire had already spread to the fourth and fifth floors before it quickly reached the eighth and ninth floors still under renovation.
