All 17 cases in 'nikah' cluster are family members

Kota Kinabalu: All 17 cases in a new Covid-19 cluster in Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran sparked by a nikah or Muslim marriage ceremony are family members, latest data from the Ministry of Health showed.

The Seri Gaya cluster’s index patient is a 65-year-old local man, who was detected on Oct 8 with symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

Five family members in Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran, all locals, tested positive between Oct 8 and 19.

Eleven more family members in Kota Kinabalu were found positive today.

The ministry did not say where the nikah ceremony took place but Seri Gaya is the name of a taman or residential area in Luyang, Kota Kinabalu.
