Kota Kinabalu: Blood supply collection has dropped 80 per cent since the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March took place, said Dr Jamaludin Mail, Transfusion Medical Unit Head at the Women and Children’s Hospital (HWKKS).“In March, we could only collect 200 bags of blood while the requirement for HWKKS is 800 bags of blood per month.
“For the 800 units of blood, about 300 bags of blood are for the use of thalassemia patients who need a blood transfusion every month,” he said when met during a blood donation campaign organised by HWKKS at City Mall, recently.
