Kota Kinabalu: Non-profit organisation Changgih Designs has kicked off a “Masks and Meals” fundraiser to help some 500 families badly affected by the third Covid-19 wave.
They are hoping to raise RM20,000 to purchase food supplies and reusable face masks for the families affected by the Conditional Movement Control Order (MCO) around the city here.
Allen Dawson, head of Changgih Design’s Give Back initiative, said the fundraiser was an initiative born from the “Rakyat Jaga Rakyat” spirit.
The goal is to sustain the less fortunate communities across Kota Kinabalu villages, including Putatan, Penampang, Kionsom, Inanam, Kinarut and Menggatal.
Most faced unemployment during this challenging period, he said.
Dawson said they managed to provide food to more than 2,000 individuals across Kota Kinabalu with their “Give10toSabah” programme during the last round of the movement control order (MCO).
Changgih Designs was now hoping to be able to help more people who were in need, he said.
The food relief supplies for “Masks & Meals” would be personally purchased and packed by organisers of Changgih Designs to be distributed to beneficiaries, he added.

“This programme is especially crucial for us at Changgih Designs because our skilled artisans are members of the local communities who are directly impacted by the conditional MCO and Covid-19 outbreak here in Sabah.
“Any amount of help from the public is much appreciated.
“We are remaining hopeful that this wave will pass quickly for our colleagues, friends and families in Sabah,” he added.
Changgih Designs is a social enterprise that helps lift others up by way of empowerment through vocational training and upskilling.
“But now, we would like to seek support from all Malaysians to lend a hand, not only in supporting your local artisans but keeping in mind their livelihood which is at stake right now,” said Joanna Moss, co-founder of Changgih Designs.
