Mercy flight for Esscom officer hurt in mishap

SANDAKAN: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) performed a mercy flight Tuesday for an Esscom officer, who was injured in a mishap, to continue treatment in his hometown in Keningau.

Ranau District Police Headquarters (IPD) CID officer, Inspector Sherly Simon, said the mishap involving her husband, Esscom Tactical Division officer, Inspector Kusmass Enos, 32, took place at Batu 6 on Oct 10 at 1.55pm.

She said Kusmass went into a coma after he lost control of his car which went off the road while heading to Sandakan from Ranau for duty.

“The doctors found it difficult to raise our hopes because my husband is suffering from a brain haemorrhage at a crucial spot which controls movement and breathing.

“But, his condition is improving and he can move with assistance but his speech is still weak…we are very thankful,’’ she said when met by reporters at the Sandakan IPD Flats Complex.

According to Sherly, her husband, who was from Kampung Sungoi, Apin-Apin would undergo physiotherapy at the Keningau Hospital and traditional treatment.

Esscom Land Operation Division Chief of Staff, SAC M Chandra who was present to witness the mercy flight (from Sandakan to Keningau) by the PDRM’s Air Operation Team, said Esscom was very concerned with Kusmass’ condition following the mishap.

“From the outset, after founding out about the mishap, Esscom have sought the aid of the Sandakan IPD which provided accommodation and transportation for his family.

“We pray for his speedy recovery so that he could return to work,” he said.
