PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,032 Covid-19 cases and eight deaths in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 820 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 24,815.
In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 1,032 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 35,425.
There are currently 10,339 patients being treated. Eighty-two are in intensive care, with 27 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the eight deaths bring the toll to 271.
The deceased comprised seven patients in Sabah and one in Perak, two of whom were foreigners and six Malaysians, all between the ages of 56 and 83. All patients suffered from existing medical conditions.
There were three imported cases today involving foreigners who came here from India, Singapore and the Philippines, while the bulk of local cases today were from Sabah with 646.
Of the cases in Sabah, 100 were detected from existing clusters, while 367 were detected from close contact screenings and 179 in other screenings.
Selangor reported a spike of 231 cases, with 155 coming from existing clusters, 40 from close contact screenings and 34 from other Covid-19 screenings.
One individual in the state had tested positive after returning from Sabah while another during a severe acute respiratory infection screening.
Negeri Sembilan reported 44 cases, followed by Labuan with 28, Kedah with 25 and Penang with 23 infections.
Sarawak recorded nine cases, while Kuala Lumpur and Perak reported seven and six cases respectively. Meanwhile, Putrajaya, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor each reported five cases or less.
The bulk of these cases were detected in clusters, close contact screenings and other Covid-19 screenings.
