Sabah MKN limits detainees at PTS

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah National Security Council (MKN) has limited the number of detainees at all four temporary detention centres (PTS) in the State as part of efforts to control Covid-19 infection among detainees.Sabah MKN Director Sharifah Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof said the number of detainees at the PTS had been reduced to below 5,000 people compared to their total capacity of 6,000, since March.

“However, we cannot avoid (admission of detainees) because by law, prisons cannot keep people who are free from punishment, especially illegal immigrants.

“PTS has to accept detainees without documents under the Immigration Act for the purpose of deportation (from Sabah) and they will be placed at PTS according to the stipulated standard operating procedures (SOPs),” she told reporters after visiting Kota Kinabalu PTS in Manggatal, here, Wednesday.
