KINABATANGAN: Three people were nabbed on suspicion of trying to smuggle RM150,000 worth of contraband cigarettes past a police roadblock under the guise of “essential services” at the Kinabatangan district border. District Police Chief Supt Dzulbaharin Ismail said the trio were found with 3,145 cartons of contraband cigarettes in a lorry and a van on Monday and Tuesday.
The case is being probed under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
On another development, Dzulbaharin said 218 people were issued compounds for failing to comply with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) since the Movement Control Order (MCO) came into place in March 18.
