Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan former Olympians, Datuk James Wong and Datuk Zainuddin Abd Wahab both voiced their support to the pension scheme proposal by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) to the government for athletes who had participated in the Olympic Games or achieved similar Olympics success.OCM president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria on Wednesday had said the pension will help ease the burden of national athletes who had sacrificed a lot for the country’s glory and many are facing difficulties now with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Football legend James, whose winning goal in the play-off against South Korea in the 2-1 victory at the Merdeka Stadium in 1980 that earned the country’s ticket for the Moscow Olympics said it is a long time coming especially for those athletes from the amateur era.
