PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,168 Covid-19 cases and three deaths in the past 24 hours.
This is the fifth day in a row that Malaysia’s cases have reached four digits.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,029 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 27,409.
In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 1,168 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 39,357.
Meanwhile, the three deaths bring the toll to 282.
The three deaths involved two women and one man from Sabah, aged between 51 and 62. All of them had a history of non-communicable diseases.
A total of 11,666 people are currently receiving treatment, with 87 in intensive care and 32 requiring respiratory assistance.
All of today’s cases were local infections, the bulk of which were from Sabah, with 616 infections. A total of 256 cases were from the prison and temporary detention centre clusters in the state.
This was followed by Selangor (247 cases), Labuan (104), Negeri Sembilan (68), Perak (37), Kuala Lumpur (28), Sarawak (25), Penang (18), Kedah (15), Johor (5), Terengganu (3) and Melaka (2).
The bulk of these cases were detected in the existing clusters.
The health ministry has detected four new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the Softwood cluster in Sabah, Teratai cluster in Selangor, Damanlela construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur and the Mahkota cluster involving Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Sarawak.
The Softwood cluster was traced to Lahad Datu in Sabah. The first case tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 30 and close contact screenings identified 13 other cases.
As of noon, 109 people were screened, with 14 testing positive and 95 still awaiting results.
The Teratai cluster involves the districts of Klang, Kuala Selangor, Petaling and Hulu Langat in Selangor. The first case tested positive on Nov 2 and close contact screenings identified 73 other cases.
As of noon, 101 people were screened, with 74 testing positive, 17 negative and 10 still awaiting results.
The Damanlela construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur involves the districts of Lembah Pantai, Kepong and Titiwangsa. The first case tested positive yesterday and close contact screenings identified 14 other cases.
As of noon, 292 people were screened, with 15 testing positive, 269 negative and eight still awaiting results.
The Mahkota cluster involves cases in Hulu Langat, Selangor; Kepong and Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur; Sibu, Sarawak; and Putrajaya. The first case tested positive on Oct 30 and close contact screenings identified eight other cases.
As of noon, 56 people were screened, with nine testing positive, 28 negative and 19 still awaiting results.
The Tawau temporary detention centre cluster, also known as the PTS Tawau cluster, recorded the most cases with 121 Covid-19 infections today.
It was followed by the Sandakan prison cluster with 91 infections, the Rengas cluster with 35 infections and the Tenaga cluster with 32 infections. All other active clusters recorded fewer than 30 cases each.
