Kota Kinabalu: Internet has become a vital means to express feelings, sharing and assisting the flow of information among the people when countless of couples, families and friends are separated after countries including Malaysia implemented entry and movement restrictions to curb Covid-19.
A Malaysian working in Canada, Travis Jude Fernandez, 24, from Kota Kinabalu said he was extremely sad as he could not fulfill his plan to return in July to meet his family members and friends.

But he said life in the 21st century has its advantage with the internet and mobile phone devices.
“However, it is different from face to face. Face to face brings more emotions physically and mentally ,” said Travis.
“I am not sure how internet can make it better, but I will try not to focus on my emotions too much by keeping myself busy with work from home and keeping my house tidy,” he added.
Another resident from Kota Kinabalu, Danielle Jasli Tindi, 24, expressed her sadness as she was supposed to go back Miri this year to meet her relatives but was unable due to the situation.
However, Danielle said as long as there is the internet, it is just one call away, even though it is definitely different from face to face.
“Through face to face we get a first-hand idea or opinion. It is more spontaneous I shall say, and the ideas run wider when you are talking face to face to a person,” Danielle added.
Nonetheless, she said video calls are really a life savior during this pandemic.
“It is best to squeeze some time for video calls with loved ones from afar,” she said.
She concluded with the hope the pandemic will be over soon so everyone could travel or visit their loved ones who are far apart.
