Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old jobless man who dressed-up as a woman while trespassing into a woman’s hostel, was fined RM1,500 or a month’s jail.
Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun meted out the sentence to Rosland Abdullena who pleaded guilty to the charge, Monday.
Rosland broke into the hostel between 7pm and 8pm on Nov 2 this year at Block C of Kolej Kediaman Tun Mustapha, here.
He committed the offence under Section 448 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to three years, or fine of up to RM5,000, or both, upon conviction.
During mitigation, Rosland, who was not represented, asked for no custodial sentence, saying that he just passed by the area to go back to Kg Numbak.
When the court asked him why he was dressed-up like a woman during the incident, Rosland replied that he always do that since he was small.
Rosland also told the court that he saw a security guard at the hostel but he said maybe the guard did not see him. However, Inspector Lim Swee Beng urged the court to impose an adequate sentence.
The court heard that the complainant, a student, was at her room when a man with woman appearance entered her room without her permission.
The man later identified as Rosland who wore tudung (scarf) later asked the complainant about the exit door but the complainant did not answer as she was shocked with Rosland’s presence.
The complainant informed a fellow dormitory student about the incident.
Rosland was detained and confessed he knew that outsiders were not allowed to enter the hostel without permission.
