Kuala Lumpur: The Health Ministry today reported 869 new Covid-19 cases, with 397 detected in Sabah.
In a statement today, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that all but one case were local transmissions, with the imported case coming from a Malaysian arriving from Nepal.
Dr Noor Hisham also confirmed six new deaths from Covid-19 today, bringing the number of deaths from Covid-19 in Malaysia to 300.
Sabah still registers the highest new daily Covid-19 cases at 397, with 92 coming from existing clusters and three new clusters called the Liawan, Tatahan and GK Tawau, 215 from close contact screenings and 90 from Covid-19 screenings done.
Meanwhile, Selangor too is still registering a high number of Covid-19 new cases at 235. Out of those, 162 were from existing clusters, 33 were from close contact screenings conducted, and 40 from Covid-19 screenings done.
Negri Sembilan registered 141 new Covid-19 cases today, with 129 coming from existing clusters, 10 from close contact screenings and two from Covid-19 screenings done.
The remaining states recording new Covid-19 cases are Penang (27), Kuala Lumpur (19), Perak (12), nine new cases in Kelantan, eight new cases in Johor and Labuan respectively, six in Sarawak and three each in Putrajaya and Kedah.
Dr Noor Hisham added that 82 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 27 of them needing a ventilator to help them breathe.
All six deaths today were local Sabahans between the ages of 47 and 84 — all of whom had a history of health conditions and died in Sabah.
