Kota Kinabalu: Subsidiary of Kota Kinabalu City Hall, DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd, paid RM53,585.53 in tithes (zakat) for the year 2019 to the Sabah Tithe Centre (PZS).The cheque was handed over by DBKK Holdings Executive Director Karim Rahim to Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) Chief Executive Officer Ramlan Awang at the Sabah State Administrative Center (PPNS), here, Monday.
It was witnessed by Special Tasks Minister Datuk Arifin Mohd Arif and City Hall Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman.
Arifin said the contributions received would go towards the asnaf and those impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As a body that is entrusted to safeguard these monetary contributions, the money will be channelled to the asnaf.
“I urge all Government-linked companies (GLC) and other business corporations to come forward and carry out their responsibilities in paying their business tithe, so that we can help more of the asnaf,” he told reporters after the handover ceremony.
He added that the council currently has six assistance programmes to help those affected by the pandemic.
This includes one-off RM3,000 cash aid to 100 selected mosques throughout Sabah, as well as monthly one-off assistance to some 9,600 individuals.
Arifin said the council will establish three more assistance programs which is currently being refined and will be announced later on.
The Sabah Tithe Centre is under the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis).
