Resolving Sabah’s power woes
Kota Kinabalu: A 1,000-megawatt (MW) gas-powered independent power producer (IPP) will be set up in the State’s east coast as part of the Government’s effort to resolve the acute electricity supply problem in the area. This is just part of temporary measures while waiting for the West-East Grid Transmission Line to be fully completed which can ensure stable power supply in the east coast districts, particularly Sandakan, Tawau and Lahad Datu.

While waiting for the completion of the said IPP which will probably be set up in Sandakan or at any of the other two districts, 300MW will be provided temporarily via solar energy and mobile barges to meet the needs in the districts.
