LABUAN: Remembrance Day, which has been held here every year for the past two decades on the Sunday closest to Nov 11 and at the 11th hour to pay tribute to Borneo’s fallen heroes of World War Two, was shelved this year.Although it is listed in the calendar of tourism events, the programme at the War Memorial was understandably dropped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Not wanting to break the “chain”, two persons who have been involved in the programme for years, marked the day on their own initiative by holding the core event of playing wreaths at the Cross of Sacrifice, which is the central place of the memorial.
