Kota Kinabalu: The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) in collaboration with the Sabah Women and Children Hospital will be organising a blood donation drive at Palm Square in Centre Point from 10am to 5pm on Nov 21.
USCCAKK President Datuk Susan Wong urged the public to support the blood donation campaign, adding that the Sabah Women and Children Hospital in Likas is in dire need of blood supply due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
USCCAKK Youth Chief, Chow Chen Cheong will be spearheading the blood drive together with the hospital.
The activity is co-organised by the Malaysian Medical Association Sabah Chairman, Prof Dr Kew Seih Teck, Malaysian Red Crescent, Diabetes Malaysia and sponsored by Wong’s company, the WSG Group.
“Every drop of blood is a gift of life. We hope the people of Kota Kinabalu would step forward to do their part in saving lives as we battle against the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Wong.
She said blood donors would receive a travel bag and other special gifts to encourage more people to participate.
Free blood sugar test will be provided on site. She hoped the event would achieve its target in alleviating the acute shortage of blood supply at the Sabah Women and Children Hospital.
Wong assured that the activity would strictly comply with the government’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“Volunteers from Malaysian Red Crescent will be present to facilitate the event, including conducting crowd control, temperature checks and sanitation to ensure a safe environment for blood donors,” she said.
