PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,041 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said he will be releasing more data on the third wave which is affecting Malaysia later.

He said this during a special briefing to fight Covid-19 here today.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said there were 1,405 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 40,493 cases.

He said the total number of cases in the country is now at 53,679 while the total number of active infections stands at 12,854.

Out of this, 108 cases are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 45 patients requiring the aid of breathing ventilators.

Three deaths were reported today, which brings the toll to 332 cases (0.6% of the cases reported).

Selangor reported the highest number of infections with 402 cases (38.6%), followed by Sabah (346 cases or 33.2%) and Negeri Sembilan (11.6%).

Selangor has the highest number due to the number of active cases in the Teratai cluster (298 or 74.1%), said Noor Hisham.

“Sabah also has the highest number due to intensive medical swabs while in Negeri Sembilan, the increase is due to the increase in the number of clusters,” said Noor Hisham.

All three who died were from Sabah.

They included a 62-year-old man with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity, and a 78-year-old man with a history of high blood pressure.

The third patient was a 55-year-old woman with high blood pressure and diabetes.
