Covid-19: 970 cases nationwide, 3 Sabah deaths

PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 970 Covid-19 cases and four deaths in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,348 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 46,501.

In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 970 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 59,817.
Meanwhile, the four deaths bring the toll to 345.
Noor Hisham added that Negeri Sembilan reported the highest number of cases today with 318 cases, followed by Sabah with 293 cases.
ADVERTISEMENT Selangor’s numbers dropped drastically, with only 115 new cases recorded today, compared with more than one thousand new cases each in the past two days.
He said the spike in cases from Negeri Sembilan came from the Bakti prison cluster, with 301 new cases today.

On a related matter, there were a total of 318 cases from prison, lock up or temporary detention centre clusters. Aside from the Bakti cluster in Negeri Sembilan, the Tembok cluster (12), the Matambai cluster (three), the Sandakan Prison cluster (one) and the Remand prison cluster (one) also reported new cases in the last 24 hours.
There are currently 12,971 active cases, with 110 individuals receiving intensive care, of which 47 require respiratory assistance.
On the four deaths reported today, Noor Hisham said two were from Sabah, one from Penang and one from Labuan. They were aged between 54 and 77, with two of them having chronic health conditions.
Other states with new cases reported today were Perak (80), Kuala Lumpur (44), Johor (30), Penang (14), Kedah (24), Kelantan (8) and Labuan (37). Sarawak and Pahang both reported two cases each, while Melaka, Terengganu and Putrajaya reported one case each.
Noor Hisham said that of the 970 new cases, five were imported.
The health ministry has detected five new Covid-19 clusters in the country over the last 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the D’Bajaru cluster in Sabah; Gangsa cluster in Selangor; Batu Tujuh and Tanjung Bunga clusters in Johor; and Kerengge cluster in Terengganu.
On the D’Bajaru cluster, Noor Hisham said it was first detected in Lahad Datu, Sabah, after targeted community screenings at two high-risk villages. The first positive case from the cluster was detected on Nov 11. As of Nov 25, 609 people have been screened and 90 found positive.
The Gangsa cluster, meanwhile, involves the Kuala Langat district in Selangor. The index case was found positive after workplace screenings on Nov 23. So far, 78 people have been screened, with 29 foreigners and one Malaysian found positive.
The Batu Tujuh cluster involves the Batu Pahat and Johor Bahru districts in Johor. It was detected when a Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) patient was screened on Nov 22.
As of Nov 25, 144 people have been screened, with 13 positive patients identified.

Meanwhile, a total of 87 people in the Tanjung Bunga cluster from Johor Bharu have been screened so far, with 11 positive cases.
The Kerengge cluster in Marang, Terengganu, was identified when an individual tested positive after showing symptoms on Nov 17. A total of 680 people have been screened from the cluster, six of whom tested positive.
