Philippine regions still closed to returnees

Kota Kinabalu: The desire and wishes of Filipinos stranded in Sabah, including OFWs (overseas Filipino workers), to be with their loved ones back home this Yuletide season remain far from reality.

This is because the local government units (LGUs) of Zamboanga-Basulta still refuse to accept locally stranded individuals (LSIs), including Filipino returnees from Malaysia, due to the existing threat of Covid-19 transmissions.

In October, the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) approved a resolution for moratorium of returning LSIs, including Filipinos from Sabah, to curb the spike of Covid-19 cases in the region.
