JAKARTA: The Jakarta Tanah Abang Police precinct on Tuesday announced that it has mobilised a number of its personnel to investigate a video, that went viral on social media, showing a person reciting the azan [call to prayer] containing calls for jihad. This section of the azan originally calls people to take prayers but has been changed into ‘hayya alal jihad’ which calls people to commit jihad. Police believe this has taken place in Central Jakarta’s Petamburan area.

The video emerged after the fact that police will be summoning Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab for questioning. The video shows a number of people wearing white robes listening to the azan and raising their fists into the air in response to the calls for jihad. The video was shared by Twitter account @AntiBuzzerRp and at least there are 10 different videos showing similar calls for jihad in numerous different locations and recorded by different people. Previously, FPI legal representative Aziz Yanuar confirmed that the azan mixed with calls for jihad did happen. He claimed that they were acting upon their own initiatives instead of following orders.
